Myrtle Beach and Compass Cove Oceanfront Resort have a proud tradition of welcoming our friends from the Great White North, showing a little extra attention to the folks who make the long trip all the way from Canada to experience the South Carolina sunshine and the Grand Strand seashore in the springtime. In keeping with that rich history of hospitality, Myrtle Beach and Compass Cove are celebrating the 56th Annual Canadian-American Days Festival March 11-19.
Honoring the Canadians who migrate from their winter homeland to their favorite spring getaway on the Grand Strand, the Can-Am Days Festival features a wide variety of events to recognize the strong relationship between our two countries. Dating back to Myrtle Beach's early days as a vacation destination, Can-Am Days is our way of rolling out the red carpet and saying thanks for the continued support of Canadian citizens who call the Grand Strand their home away from home.
Can-Am Days has a little something for everyone, including concerts, dance competitions, sporting events and even a guided tour of historic Conway. Best of all, to help take a bite out of the monetary exchange rate, local attractions, restaurants, shops and entertainment venues are offering discounted rates to Canadians so they can enjoy all the great things the Grand Strand has to offer — and Compass Cove is launching its “Free Spring Nights” promotion just in time for Can-Am Days. Here's a look at some of the fun activities taking place around town for Can-Am Days:
* Grand Strand YMCA Can-Am Cup: More than 200 teams, 2,000 soccer players, and countless fans and family members descend on the Grand Strand for this youth soccer tournament. Held at The Market Common and various other venues throughout the area, this event brings together teams from both countries for some spirited competition on the soccer pitch. This March 4-5 tourney takes place the week before the official start of Can-Am Days, but many Canadians use the event as an opportunity to sneak in more vacation time.
* Conway Tour: Catch a free shuttle from the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce to the Conway Visitors Center for a tour of the historic downtown district. See the Horry County Museum, the Riverwalk and other attractions, and check out the local shops and restaurants. The shuttle runs March 15 and 16 and departs at 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m., returning at 1, 2 and 3:30 p.m. Reservations are suggested and can be secured at www.conwayalive.com
* Festive Brass of Myrtle Beach Concert: Enjoy the sound of horns blasting out your favorite swing tunes at this free concert in North Myrtle Beach. Held March 19 at 3 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, this is one show you don't want to miss.
* Discounts: Flash your Canadian ID and get ready to save some cash during Can-Am Days. Receive discounts on golf, theaters, attractions, restaurants and more just for visiting. Guests at Compass Cove can also get free tickets to various venues around the Strand as part of our Sun & Fun Rewards program. The spring lineup includes one free ticket per room to Broadway Grand Prix, Rockin' Jump Trampoline Park and Brookgreen Gardens, as well as $19.95 admission to Ripley's Aquarium.
It's all part of our way of showing our appreciation to our Canadian visitors. Come stay with us at Compass Cove Oceanfront Resort and experience our warm Southern hospitality, first-class amenities and comfortable accommodations year-round. Every day is a Can-Am Day at Compass Cove.
