Not too far from the Compass Cove Resort is the 24th Annual Quilt Gala at the Ocean Lakes Family Campground. If your passion is quilting, you won’t want to miss this event. The Compass Cove Resort is a great place for your accommodations, amenities and amazing oceanfront views.
The first gala took place at the Horry County Museum in 1994 on the lawn of the old County Courthouse. It was a spectacular site with 40 beautiful hand-made quilts on display waiving in the wind. Over the past 20+ years, this event has grown to a 2-day event and includes over 200 quilts and quilted items.
The Grand Strand Quilters, keeps the young to mature quilters a place to share in the Art of Quilting. They not only offer classes and tips amongst each other, but they also do a strong outreach in the community by donating quilts and hosting Charity Sew Days. The gala is held at the Ocean Lakes Family Campground in their ballroom with over 17,000 sq. ft. of exhibit space for the vendors to display their prized quilts along with a Merchant Marketplaces with lots of quilting notions, fabrics, and supplies for sale.

Admission is $5 per person, children 12 and under are free
If you want to enter the gala, fill out the entry form [entry form] and you can exhibit. There will be an award for the viewer’s choice. Winners will be given for third, second and first place including the best of show. The first place winners will get to have their quilts displayed at the Horry Country Museum.
Maybe you want to enter the Challenge Category, “Life’s a Beach”. There will be winner’s for this category as well.
You won’t want to miss the many door prizes we have that you can win or join in the raffle drawing. If you are looking for some new ideas or maybe just began quilting, there will be hand quilting demonstrations, lectures and even special exhibit by Fiber Fanatics, a local fiber arts guild.
