When you’re in Myrtle Beach, amazing seafood is never far.
It’s the region that made calabash seafood famous, but it’s more than that today. Sure, you can still get your delectable battered basket of shrimp, but there’s a variety of seafood on The Grand Strand, too.
Here are five of our favorites, and suggestions for what to order.
1.) Sea Captain's House
A popular choice, with great seafood and views, in a welcoming seaside cottage. It’s a dining treat in a cozy atmosphere, with hush puppies that will distract you from life. Sea Captain’s House prides itself on service, and you’ll want to return every time you’re in Myrtle Beach.
You must try: The she-crab soup is award-winning, and the shrimp salad and fruit is delicious. The jambalaya and grilled salmon are also outstanding.
2.) Hook & Barrel
For fresh, flavorful seafood for any course of dinner, the clear choice is Hook & Barrel. This time of year, it’s perfect to enjoy distinctive dishes out on the patio, too. Hands down one of the best places to eat on the Grand Strand, regardless of cuisine!
You must try: The fish bites, made from fresh catch with jalapeno dressing with remoulade, to start. The smoked shrimp and grits will stay in your memory for quite a while. Delicious.
3.) Captain George's Seafood Restaurant
Come chill out in a cool seafaring environment with a tremendous seafood buffet. Their fried Pollack, fried shrimp, and scallops are wonderful, as is the mahi-mahi. As an added bonus, the beef brisket is also off-the-chain yummy.
You must try: The buffet is superb, with snow crab legs and steamed shrimp, clams, mussels, and crawfish, and more. Save room for homemade chocolate, banana, and rice pudding, plus scrumptious cobblers.
4.) Flying Fish Public Market & Grill
Try this lively spot for Southern seafood, sushi and distinctive cocktails. It’s a fantastic restaurant (try the flounder!) with a small seafood market inside. Drop in during the Flying Fish’s happy hour — you’ll have a blast.
You must try: Start with coconut shrimp, goat cheese oysters, or seafood nachos. The mahi melt is marvelous, and the buffalo shrimp taco is a tasty treat.
5.) Chesapeake House
Bring the family to this spacious waterfront fish shack, with a sweet bonus: an onsite bakery. A tradition since 1971, it’s family-owned and serves fresh local seafood and steaks. Plus the cajun grilled salmon is amazing, as are the hush puppies and cinnamon rolls.
You must try: The early-bird menu includes fried inlet shrimp and flounder. Deviled crab and the catch of the day are both delightful choices, too
